The Back Of The Poem

ㅤYou flip the poem’s scroll over and find a stick figure waving to you on the back.

ㅤ”Hello! Did you enjoy the poem?” He asks. You hear the sound come off the edges of the pages. He walks across a line floor closer to your left hand. As you continue to watch him in silence, he tries to knock his fist against your fingers, but it passes under.

ㅤ”You don’t talk much, do you?” he says. “Call me Dave, Two Dimensional Dave. Wait, what are you doing?” 2DDave asks as you take your pencil and poke a hole into the paper. He walks over and sticks his hand into it. A quick flip of the scroll reveals his arm waving to you on the other side.

ㅤ”Well, that’s neat,” 2DDave says, and this time his voice comes from the edges of the scroll and the small pinhole you poked.

ㅤ”Hey, could you draw me a house? And try to draw me a dog?” 2DDave asks. You do. As you do, it occurs to you that a 2D house can’t have more than two doors per room. Unless one is a trapdoor. The puppo you draw is cute, but unfortunately does not animate once finished.

ㅤ”Darn. Well, thanks for the house!” 2DDave says. He starts exploring his crudely drawn house. As he does, you unfurl the scroll completely and see a metallic sticker at the top that says Discovery #2261. Thinking about your recent discoveries, you wonder if there are really two thousand of them, or if it is just some form of classification system.

ㅤYou wave  to 2DDave as you start to roll up the scroll and put it away.

ㅤ”Hey! Have a good hollow visit! There are more secrets to discover!” 2DDave says. “If you can, try to find the keeper! I haven’t seen him in a while.” With that, you tuck the scroll back between the wooden trunks you found it in.
